Bar None Monday Sessions
Just came back from the 1st gig of the series. Had the original intention of going there to network with some bands. Ended up not doing it. Watched Steel City Skies play. Now, I'm not a fan but they were pretty on form tonight. Much tighter than previous gigs I saw them performing. Almost wanted to shell out $6 to get their EP but I spent it all on beer. Heh...
Force Vomit came on next. I had not seen these guys play in a while. Singer Dino broke a string into the 1st 4 bars of the 1st song, "Ride The Changi", creating a uproar and kicking off their set with an auspicious start. Seriously. I thought it was friggin' hilarious...
While Dino borrowed another guitar to set up and play, the bassist, Wan started playing British baggy legends Stone Roses' "I Wanna Be Adored" with Esam of Stoned Revivals singing away. Incidentally, Esam is pretty much a permanent fixture in the Force Vomit lineup as well. After the guitar problem was fixed, they started tearing through several of their classics like my fave FV song still, "Spacemen Over Malaysia", "Mona Koh" and their crowdpleaser, "Siti". You gotta give it to them for the sheer panache they have, all the hair swinging with the rock posturings. And they were all visibly drunk.
Ramshackled performance. Out of tune guitars. Totally off timing at times. But it was sure as hell fun and entertaining. They ended the night with a cover of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall (part 2)", accompanied by 2 rappers. It was a pure mess but still entertaining.
I missed Tiramisu's set as I was rushing home. I think I should be going for next week's hip-hop thang as well. Any takers?
